Lastest Update as of  June 22nd....

Last night was the awards gala for the Paint San Celemente 2008.  I won an honorable mention.  This felt great!  I also won enough money to get me through another week.  Pictures of the paintings coming soon.  The "Early Morning Fog"' painting turned out real nice and I received a lot of wonderful comments, which in my opinion is better than winning.  Having the accolades of so many peers really made my evening... Thank you!

Next up, Plein Air Easton!.... can't wait for that.



Latest Update as of June 15th...

Today started off the Paint San Clemente paintout sponsored by the San Clemente Art Association.  They started off the event with a quickdraw, which really isn't that quick considering they give you two hours, which happens to be about the usual time for me to do a painting.  Anyway, I also usually choke on these events... Like taking a test and bombing it know that you knew the answers anyway.  Well, this time I did a really super nice little painting.  A cute little street scene with telephone poles and even a car.  I'll post it next week when it comes out of the gallery.  

This fun event is starting to gain in popularity particulary because of the large cash awards.  Fine by me as I'm getting better all the time.  Bummer is that it is also attracting some big talent.  Anyway, it's a fun paintout with lots of local artists that I know well and as always should be a week of fun.  The gala is Saturday the 21st at the community center on Del Mar Ave.  I'm looking forward to doing a bunch of fine paintings and even selling a few.

Latest Update as of April 3rd...

Well, I've been doing some paintings, not as much as I would like, but I've also been real busy taking some classes at the local JC to improve my programming skills with ASP.NET so I can make the website even better.  And by better, I mean it will blow everyone else out of the water.

But I now have to start focusing on my paintings a lot more, because I got into the Plein Air Easton show!  This is the premeire East Coast event.  Getting into this show not only was a serious confidence booster, but a real chance to show a lot of people my artistic and painting skills.  

When I got the letter for the show, I just about dropped a load in my shorts.  I'm telling you, this made me soooo happy.  So, anyway, the show isn't until the end of July, so you'll have to wait for the update.  In the meantime, I'll be at the Mission Show at San Juan Capistrano this weekend for the outdoor show and the juried reception is Friday evening around 6pm.  Hope to see you there.
 

Latest Update as of March 2nd...

This past weekend was the first of two weeks for the Festival of Whales outdoor show and sale at Dana Point Harbor.  Even though Saturday was a cold and cloudy day, sales were great!  Sunday, however, with brighter, sunnier weather, sales were not so brisk.  Next weekend, the 8th and 9th, I will be at the Dana Point Harbor again with about 6 to 8 new paintings, including (hopefully), a couple of larger peices at 20x24.  I have the frames, I just don't have the paintings to go in  them.  A little backwards, but it's a long story.

To those who purchased my paintings the past weekend, A big THANK YOU!!!  I AWAYS appreciate a new collector and I hope you enjoy the paintings as much as I did painting them.


Latest Update as of December 21st...

I haven't done as much painting as I would like because I have been working on the ENFAOnline.net site.  A site that does websites for artists.... check it out....  Anyway, though what I haven't produced in quantity, I've knocked out in quality.  The few paintings that I have done this past month or so have been real knockouts.  I think I just came off a platue and I'm real excited about climbing up with some newfound skill.  Basically, I've stopped doing such an intense underpainting, rather, I start just applying the paint thinly, building up and focusing just on shapes.  Then as I build into the painting, I let the negative shapes build and support the positive ones.  Then I finish up with some detail, edge finding and breaking the planes.  The painting above shows some of what I'm talking about.

Latest Update as of November 3rd....

Talking about a nice shot of confidence and rassurance in the arm.  At the University of Redlands Plein Air competition last week, I took second place!  And a nice fat check!  The painting didn't sell, so It's available here on the website.  It's called "Larson Lightpost".

I was super excited and really happy about that.  It was just a nice way to boost my morale when it comes to painting.  It was during the week of the bad wildfires going on here in Southern California and we only got in one day to paint.  I'm glad I made the most of it when I did.  There were over 50 artists in this event.
